This Pictorial report of a crusade in Masai land, Laiseri Kiteto District Tanzania from 2nd July-21stJuly,2007 by Pr Lemareka Kibasisi and his family together with Majawanga SDA church located in Gairo.

1.Received into Oltotoi Manyata (Maasai boma or homestead). Here was among earliest reception from among the bomas of elder Nyika Kosei and his family. He is tall in center by his hopitallity accepted to be our host.
2.This was our mode of transport to and from among the bomas and village. In front are several sweepers (dogs). On 19thJuly we tried to take our public address systems to the cattle market. It is the Laiseri/Pakine Cattle Market (Mnada wa mifugo na Vifaa vya Wafugaji) which is ussually twice a month. Arround 2000 people were in the grounds. We oppened our 3 horns and 2box speakers when the market was finalising. It attracted the multitudes to our spot where we started our gospel advertisement by welcoming people to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of their life. We discovered that we can attract many Masai if we can attend various cattle market which is seasonally scattered in all of Tanzania. This is a bright idea. Any imput?

Wonderful Evangelistic designed wedding

Wonderful Evangelistic designed wedding.

We praise God for making the event successful. We appreciate so much the contribution of individuals and committee for this wedding. Others who were not in the position to contribute did their part in prayers and moral support. May God reward all of you abundantly for your concern.

It was on 31st March 2005.Before the event were several powerful happenings. March 19, there was a very big musical concert involving 5 choirs several groups convened by Morogoro Central church (at Misufini). March 20 was dedication of Morogoro Central Church and the bridegroom was first church elder for this year. Again from 21st - 22nd March there were other, the dedication of East Tanzania Field as Conference by president of Seventh-day Adventist church in Eastern-Central Africa division, pastor Geoffrey Mbwana. In front cover Parapanda Magazine of East Tanzania Conference issued at the celebrations several angels were pictured surrounding one Maasai youngman (AWR producer in Maasai attire). The lord’s promise to Spiritual Israel is again fulfilled that “my house shall be called house of prayer for all nations” including Maasai people (Isaiah56: 7,8). God encouraged the exiles that when the temple is dedicated he will shake the whole world and bring all nations into his glorious house, the church (Hagai 2:4-9, Micah 4:1-3 etc). So when Morogoro Central church was dedicated March 20 God stirred the hearts of Maasai people to come in March 31st. The wedding event took place at Morogoro Central church in Tanzania. Approximately 300 Maasai people attended without counting church members who acted as hosts. Pastor Alfayo Laizer (who is a Maasai) and Samuel Katengu performed the service while Loitopuaki Lebabu the former AWR Maasai language producer translated into Maasai dialect and later entertained the special invited guests as Master of ceremony at Silver Hall located within Christian Council of Churches in Tanzania (in Morogoro).

Satan was not idle. He knew the effect of the event. In the first hand he did not like the union of two young people who withstood fierce persecutions each from parents when their faith was tender. He did everything possible to prevent or distort the wedding event. He killed 2 members of Kodihalawe Maasai Adventist Choir who were coming to sing as special invited choir making them with their pastor Ole Njake fail to attend. But God brought another choir by coincidence women singers from Malawi warmed the celebrations. The bridal party was delayed because of another accident that injured close friends of the bride and bridegroom. Several Maasai who did not attend explained that they planned to attend the next day but become sick that night and failed to attend. Some attended only to be delayed all day by call from police. Some others failed to find the place that they moved all day with rented taxis and finally decided to go home with their gifts without success.

The after reaction for those who were successful was profound. Most of attendants were relatives, friends and former associates of the bride or bridegroom. Many others understood from invitation cards and wanted to come and chance to see the man whom they used to listen in a radio i.e. Adventist world radio Maasai language programs. Some said the event would never be erased in their memory. Still many other went home and dreaming again of the event. Many others confessed that they wanted to marry that way as Adventists do. One young man who is about to marry asked his father who belonged to a strict Pentecostals for permission to have his wedding officiated by Adventists. But his father reacted angrily “forget about it!” For many traditional Maasai I mean non-Christians the event brought positive view that Christians are good/generous people with no segregation, well organized and have good plans. What attracted them most was that the marching parties were Maasai children and were putting on their traditional attire. So many went with the idea that Adventist belong to us. The event was the foreshadowing of Christ coming the second time to take his Church. Continue to pray for Maasai people and for the couple as they plan to work for them. May God bless you.

GLOBAL MISSION SEMINA AND RADIO PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT

GLOBAL MISSION SEMINA AND RADIO PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT.
On 26-27th February was great empowering day. We had DVD seminar facilitated by Global Mission department for 6 Field/Conferences of Tanzania conducted in Morogoro. I am sending this to you just because you are interested in our work.

It happened this way: Adventist-laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI) team representatives about 5 or 6 from US and Australia led by their Vice President Catarama brought several DVD Decks and The New beginnings DVD disks. On the border to Tanzania they encountered a lot of problems and expenses to bring in the equipment. Though sent as donation it was not tax exempted and still more than proper was required. With a lot of prayers God opened the way. They discovered it was the Devil who fought against the work.

Finally they came. I remember God's promise is that His work will never be stopped but allows some challenges and delays for the purpose of bringing us closer to him in our earnest prayers and increase our faith and trust in Him that He is on the helm. But He will bring it to pass in His own time. When the Spirit moves us we are determined than ever.

May God bless our friends from USA and Australia for their spirit of sacrifice. Some of the team include members of Twing family which lost their flying doctor missionary in accident according to what I heard two of them died around 1970s and their graves are within the Eastern Tanzania Conference headquarters(like David Livingstone whose heart buried in Africa). The widow worked offering education assistance in connection with donors to several African children. Among the beneficiaries is elder Mitekaro who facilitated the DVD seminar as Africa global mission coordinator.

People were used to Fitz Henry, Mark Finley, Dwight Nelson, Doug Bachelor, etc preaching through satellite. Then Share Him programs facilitated by elder Folkenberg and his teams conducted several crusades. Now is turn for African laity empowerment. There were many lay and global mission evangelists and several church leaders present. The second day of seminar i.e. 27th, 275 of us heartily received the gift of DVD deck and its disk. There was a solemn commitment to use it as an instrument of soul winning for God’s glory. A young lady Tammy refreshed us with her sweet music. Each of the conference/field leadership representatives gave admonition on the quick use of the instrument. Let me paraphrase what Pastor Lucas Nzungu said, “Let us go like as lightning before the enemy invents some other instruments of destruction and distribute before us. When we reap many souls for Jesus Christ he will get disappointed at his schemes”.

However there is a need of projector, small generator, and public address system to make each participant somehow complete in delivering conspicuous and loud message. I you have all these in Tanzania, no need to invite people you just set the equipment in the evening in any village or town the whole multitude is yours to preach. You may make a leap.

PROGRESS OF MAASAI RADIO PROJECT

Another remarkable event is the development of Radio distribution project. Though there was a delay of the distribution it has became a community issue. The President of South Nyanza Conference took one radio with its supper power megaphone to display it to their churches so make promotion in their churches to go to Maasai land but it was deployed to the Maasai people western Ngorongoro. Is already one operating station so the Conference had to order another Megaphone and Radio for its display in churches. We expect South Nyanza to establish 18 stations each with radio and megaphone.

About South-West Tanzania field there are still obstacles but the communication director Pastor Msembele is working hard to make sure 16 stations are established for Maasai listeners on their territory. There was a government re allocation of those residing there. But Barri Mosier of Kibidula is training two Maasai young men for the work and already SDA church is established near the great Ruaha game reserve where many Maasai reside.

Our local Conference that is Eastern Tanzania Conference they changed the director of Communication four times due to the Adventist Movement (From Mwakalonge to Kazagata to Mnkeni finaly to the current Nyamajeje). This shifts made the work to go slower but we have assigned 80 Maasai listener stations to their broad territory. I am working closely with the conference to make it fruitful. It is good that they make their district leaders and communication secretaries accountable to bring the report and make follow-up of the project.

We come to North East Tanzania Conference with a big Maasai population. On 27th February 2007 we handled 86 Solar powered radios to Jeremia Izungo the president of the conference. Present were the Treasurer who is the custodian of the conference, the youth director and communication director. It their turn to magnify 3 angels message in the specified areas of nomadic Maasai. Their new communication director Pastor Elitabu Kajiru is very precise. Already he alerted all members in the local churches assigned to work in Maasai land so they are preparing for the program. By the grace of God they promised establish 86 listener stations.

I talked to the president of Mara Conference they have Maasai living on the side of Serengeti so they also will receive 10 radios for t10 stations. We are still looking the way we can carry 30 radios for Maasai Development Project (MDP) in Kenya
.
Sometimes I discovered because of the beauty and strength of the radios members want them for themselves. I had to explain that they are Adventists who always hear the message. Let those who are in rural un-reached areas whose needs are greater receive first priority. The radios themselves are not enough but can become catalyst to cause the big part of the work not yet done to start. As we go on in future will get more ideas on how to modify according to various lessons from working experience. May be each station may bring up ten stations. Let us attempt little successfully before we do big. We get inspiration from Daniel 12: 3 that the wise who lead others to do good will shine like stars forever. This means AWR and ASI supplied the equipment for evangelism the the great army is supplied means to go to minister to others who in turn go on to do the same until the work is finished.

Our radio distribution plan in summary:
1. North East Tanzania Conference – 86 stations
2. Eastern Tanzania Conference – 80 stations
3. South west Tanzania Field – 16 stations
4. South Nyanza Conference – 18 stations
5. Mara Conference 10 stations
6. Maasai Development project (Kenya) 30 radios (If they can buy Megaphones then can be stations)

The great challenge for especially 2 conferences is the breadth of the land. One member among the global mission evangelists who attended the seminar commented about the challenge. He stays at Makanya in Same district (North East Tanzania Conference), in order to go to nearby maasai land he travels for 7hours with his car to conduct Sabbath school and Divine service. He also has to travel with all necessities, which are food, water, some soap, toilet paper etc not only for his family but for fellowship with Maasai members and friends. That is just an example.

We must expect great to receive it. Faith is the evidence of things not seen. Pessimism was a problem of 10 spies who made expedition to the land of Canaan along with the bright Joshua and power filed Caleb. All of them agree about the beauty of the land and the sweetness of its fruits. All agree about challenges of meeting iron chariots and bringing down thick strong walls of the cities of Canaan. Their difference is the 10’s weakness and pessimism versus the strength and courage of the two. Their difference is the way they trusted the Lord. It was about the personal relationship with the Lord. People in many times magnify the difficult situation and forget that the Lord is the author and finisher not only of our faith but our works (faith journey).

Some people will sit idle and wait until the Lord removes all obstacles to start working. We must work with what we already have in the way the Lord will supply our needs. To love the Lord with all your heart, mind and strength means we have to do all that God empowered us and leave that which we have not to God. Even if we fail temporarily we are destined to win in the long run. The Lord will bless the work the work of great sweating, sometimes agony, toil, suffering, distress, and even martyrdom, because they show how much we love him and value His sacrifice on the cross. So problems and challenges are there to drive us to our knees. But if we just sit back and criticize or project impossibilities (while our God is all-powerful, omniscient…), we become narrow minded and destined to fail. Let us rise and go to our duty in the name and power of Christ who strengthens us. Remember among ancient Israelites all doubted the lord never entered the land of promise. Today all Adventist who do not have living faith with God will not enter His rest in the kingdom of God.

MAASAI RESPONSE TO DONORS WHO SUPPORT MAASAI WORK

Dear Maasai sponsors,

RE: WORD OF APPRECIATION FOR SPONSORING MAASAI PEOPLE

I take this opportunity to send a word of appreciation to Maasai sponsors for the great job they are doing to Maasai people. It was not easy historically to reach out to our people. The reasons are clear. They were known to be fierce Nilo-Hamitic race. So both early pioneer missionaries and later fellow africans found very hard to work for this people. But God has oppened wide door for them. This is the best time to be reached. I am giving you one true story of how Maasai people used to be in the past to illustrate how aggressive were they.

One Maasai Worrior named Oloibormongi belonging to Laikipia Maasai in Kenya was chief commander leading Maasai raids arround middle of 19th Century. Laikipia formerly were known to be giants and mighty people in battle that few even of fellow Maasai could encounter them. Now arose the deliverer of the other sections of Maasai people by the name Endoros e Kapeen. He led Purko Maasai. He brought together his warriors and gave them battle plan against Laikipia. He said, "how can we sit like women when one Warrior conquers the country?" referring to Oloibormong'i. We must meet him in combat. Now Elders tried to calm morans and beseech them not to go to fight against Laikipia. Several days passed while Elders tried to persuade Endoros not to engage in combat with Oloibormong'i. One morning elders came to visit the comander Endoros and try again to beseech him not to engage in fight. In response Endoros e Kapeen pulled out his sword and cut off his own ear and handled to elders saying take this hearing which you request . He meant that now if you continue your persuasions you will be talking to a bull (commander) with no ear to hear. Now elders were aware of what he meant, that youngmen are bend on fighting with Laikipia. Few days was a march to Oloibormong'is territorry. Endoros chose four powerful warriors to visit Oloibormongi meanwhile others remain hiding in the forest eating meat. They met him at his home. After greetings they told him of their mission. Endoros asked Oloibormong'i to bring all his armour ie battle shield, spear etc and Endoros did break them in front of Oloibormong'i. " We have come" said Endoros. "We are prepared for battle. But we will not fight with you secretly or steal you unprepared. What I have done is to give you an opportunity to prepare new shield and spear that you may not say you met me unprepared having only old battle equipments. We will give you seven days of preparations and call all your warriors from all your land with a horn." After a short talk they left each other.

At that period given Oloibormong'i brought together all warriors at his place. Then Endoros apeared again with a small number of escot to meet with Oloibormong'i. They came to discuss on the battle plan. It seems strange! To discuss how to fight with your enemy? But it is true not a fable as I have interviewed several elders all coming to the same conclusion. The discussions of the warriors were as follows:
ENDOROS E KAPEEN: we are going to engage in battle with each other. This are deliberations and agreements which we had. No one of us should take advantage of the others misfortune. Therefore we must choose a good plain with no pits as environment to engage in combat. There are three kinds of morning: the black, red and white morning (Meaning at sunrise when everything is clear). Warriors meet in white morning when no one might say I did not see you when you confronted me or I was unprepared. We don't know the outcome of the battle. In case I die I give you an oath that you will inherit my family. You will care for my parents and you will be a protector of my family. I have finished.
OLOIBORMONG'I: We have come to terms. I agree all you have said. In addition I give you an oath that you will inherit my family. No one else will marry my wife except you in case I die. My father is with one eye and is old now. You have to care for him and all our family. And because we dont know how will the battle end when your warriors rout out my warriors and the youngmen run away please don't follow after them to their hiding or the assylum they escape to. Let the battle end in the plains alone.
ENDOROS E KAPEEN: okey. Let's meet tommorrow on the plain at white morning.

The next day the warriors engaged in conflict. But the leaders of factions were themselves engaged in fight with each other. But they were themselves referees of the conflict. They use their weight and stregth to push other with shields at the same time throwing spears and punching them. It was the matter of pining and punching. When it was noon Comander Endoros lifted up the white flag and shouted "it is over for today. Let warriors of each side go back for the sun is hot we cannot see each other properly". So each side withdrew. Next day the met again for fight until noon. The third day Endoros was successful to pierce his spear through the liver of his opponent Olibormong'i. He failed to puch it with his shield. "Indipa" meaning "You have made it" so fulfil your promise according to the oath we took. Endoros anounced "let the battle come to a stand still for the great warrior has died. First of all who will stand in the place of Oloibormong'i for I only fight with the bull" (Meaning the dominating male cow). Then the other warrior from Laikipia jumped and stood in front Endoros e Kapeen. He was also powerful and well proportioned in phisical structure like Oloibormong'i.Endoros asked him to call the other four powerful warrior from Laikipia. "Today there will be no fight untill the day after tommorrow" continued Endoros, "for the great warrior has passed away". Tommorrow is time of wailing. But call the father and all the family of Oloibormong'i". When the elder his family have come Endoros said father dont worry today you have begotten another son. I will care for you and the family of warrior Oloibormong'i. The next day was burrial time for among the great warriors ever lived" Endoros did send warriors who moved all Oloibormong'i's property to Endoros in accodance to the battle agreement. The next day again was engagement in fight between the factions. After two days again Endoros killed the other warrior. Instead of running another warrior from Laikipia jumped and stood infront of Endoros to fight with him. Finally when Laikipia warriors discovered that their third comander was killed by Endoros the warrior with one ear they escaped. When Endoros lifted up from a heavy job to look he saw that all opponents desappeared some killing others escaped. So he called all his warriors and commanded them not to follow to any of the fugitives who went to find shelter in the nearby forest and Kamba, Kikuyu, Nandi and other tribal communities. That was the end of the agressivenes of the fierce warlike Kwavi section of Maasai people. End of the story.

In fact I have many stories including missionary failures to reach out to maasai people especially because of their agressive and proud behavior. It was not easy for the full, satisfied people to accept Jesus. Then God allowed deseases to plunder their cattle and human power. When cattle became thin they also suffered with their cattle. After this their pride was lowered and became more humane and receptive to Christianity. When Europeans entered the scene they became causes of permanent peace among the fighting sections of Maasai people when they discovered they cannot fight with western complicated weapons.

To apply we are engaged in spiritual conflict. Through AWR we deliberately penetrate Maasai society with the kigdom messages of peace and joy. By using the trumpet of AWR we are making them aware that we are not taking them by suprise. They must understand that the strong spiritual offensive is following. Like the old Jericho, there is no courage left in them because of our trumpets. I know because I have been going through their homsteads and some even payed a visit to our place to see what is going on with what they heard from far. What is left for us is to bring the plunder of surrendered souls to Jesus who is the victorious commander of the Lords army. As Rahab was accepted into the Lords people and even married by one of the warriors so Maasai society along with others will be betrothed to Jesus and our land be called BEULA and HEFSIBA.

I believe the work you are doing for Maasai people will bring fruits and you will never regret for what you have done. May the Lord bless you abundantly and encourage your spirits till this noble work is finished. Thank you again for sponsoring air time for Maasai programs, and for the 250 radios.

Sincerely Yours,

Lemareka T. Ole Kibasisi,
Producer, AWR Maasai programs

ENKARE NAIBOR MAASAI CRUSADE
Friends,October 13th-16th,2006, I attended the effort at Longido district, ArushaTanzania. Pastor Alfayo Laizer who was a preacher called me to come andsupport him. There were AWR Maasai language listeners at Engare naiborvillage so I was asked to come and strengthen them. I worshiped at NamangaSDA church on 14th Oct,2006. There I was touched by generous activities ofdoctor Kabati. He being a doctor had been attending a number of HIV/AIDSmaasai and other patients at Namanga. After confirming the death of eachpatient he had to adopt the orphaned children at his family apartment. Isaw that he was carying big burden without any contact of donors tosupport his orphanage. He and his wife had to make home nursary school andorphanage. I was interviewing some children and discovered few veryintelligent of maasai children who lost their parents. That evening Ijoined my friends at Karao, Enkare naibor for a crusade. I saw that Godblessed the mission of pastor Stephan Hoeschele at Longido because somemembers from Longido have sown the message at Karao.Mount Longido comes from original Maasai name Loonkiito, meaning a placewhere worriors used to shapen their weapons ready for raiding partiespatroling East Africa before colonial rule. It have changed to becameshapening site for gospel warriors to take the sword of the spirit toattack the unsuspecting with the word of God. Those hills of EngareNaibor(White springs water) were historically a mountain crossing of giantwarriors to and from Kenya. As I interviewed some elders I discovered thatthe legendary Ole Kopito was truly historic warrior and the remnant of hisfamily resides near the neighbour village of Muntarara. Why am explainingthis is because it has became a reality that warriors aided infacilitating the spread of the gospel. The team of evangelists some justretired from warriorhood. They can amount to 5 adults. The response amongthe youth made the safe environment. They gathered around the site atnight to protect gospel workers. The same shield, spears and swords wereused to make the gospel successful.Few monts earlier when the Youth director of the General Conference PrBaraka Muganda arrived at Longido one elder promised a land for school atEngare naibor. So pastor Elton Lusingu the education director from theTanzania Union had to camp with warriors at Engare naibor. The next day Imean 15th Oct,2006 we witnessed 37 souls joining the church throughbaptism. That evening we had a bus of students from Suji high schooljoined our team. They were led by the North East Tanzania Conferencepresident Jeremiah Izungo and director of PASUCHO Mr Mkitunda ( assistantto conference education director). The students came to aid at witnessingand inaugurating the project of building the primary School for Maasaichildren. I was happy to meeat my young sister Nailayon (the last born ofmy mom) whom am sponsoring to study at Suji high school and Parkuris mystep brother. One of my strategies is to advice my relatives to join ourschools. My young brother Shabala has just finished form four at Ndembelasecondary. The other is yet to finish next year and 3 at Suji high schooland 2 at Chome Secondary. Later when I left received news that the totalnumber baptized were 47. But the number is still to continue risingbecause just as the field is very fertile so is the spiritual land of theheart of people of the area. I believe that we are going to have apowerful institution at the area. The village donated 10 acres forconstruction. But the area allows future expansion. One of attractivesights I witnessed is the cohabitation of people with wildlife. In our cartwo times we barely missed kicking giraffes who were dazzled by eveninglight. At the gospel campsite we were surrounded by animals like antelops, which felt safe because Maasai people do not kill wildlife for food. TheOstrich were moving around us. Let us continue to pray for the work inMaasailand. God bless you.

Parakuyo Maasai gathering at WAMI SOKOINE

I am sending the pictures of the great Parakuyo Maasai meeting at WamiSokine village.

While is still fresh in my mind I take this time again to report a bigevent that happenned in Maasai land on 25th and 26th Sept, 2006. I wasenvited to attend a great gathering of maasai people at Wami Sokoine,Mvomero district. Most of them belong to the "Irkisaruni" Age-group andtheir wives amounting to one thousand four hundred and forty four(1444).In detail men were 751 and women 693 bringing the total to 1444. But somefew not counted can bring the number to 1500 including several pastors andEvangelists. The strange thing is that the number is significant in theBible about 1444,000 elect of God. (Revelation 7 and 14:1-5). They wereretiring from their duty as full time Morans and give way to the youngage-group named "Irkorinaga". They invited pastors from severaldenominations to come and bless them that they may have a good elderhood.I was among those invited to make presentations. I invited also the Womenministries director Of Eastern Tanzania Conference(ETC) Dr Ruth Eyembe toeducate about the effects of Women Circumsition - Female GenitalMutilation(FGM). She may report separately on her part but her semina wasunderstood. Hers was an issue in Maasai culture.I saw it as an opportuninity to give out the gospel of Jesus Christ. Iwent also for field recording. I took my radio CD presentations, Videodeck, projector etc and my assistant Adam Ole Siloti was with me. On 25thsept evening I showed them video presentation and sermon about theProspective of Maasai community in the present world. We made a powerfulappeal that attracted our audience. The next day ie 26th Sept,2006 we had a prayer ceremony at one of Maasaibomas. All people sit in several lines inside the bomas cattle enclosure. All men at north of the circle and women south of the circle. All Warriors(Morans) were called to release and put down their swords,in honor o JesusChrist. Eight pastors including me were stationed at the four conners ofthe circle to give prayers and blessing to the gathering each at the outerand inner gate I mean 2 pastors at each gate and one at the centercrossroads. I wondered because the pattern was like the organisation andmovement of Israelites in the wilderness. After the ceremony was over allmen moved in lines shaking hand to pastors and later women. This made itpossible for counting. After the prayer Isaya Ole Ndokote called Maasaicommunity to became Christians by joining any church of their choice. Somechurches represented were Calvary Assemblies of God, AZUSA ministries,Evangelical Lutheran church of Tanzania, Elim Pentecoste, RomanCatholic,Anglican church, and insignifant number of Adventist. But the bignumber was never attending any church I mean just indigenous (Pagan)people. They were ispired by the event to repent their past life andbecome followers of Jesus. It is a big step for them to invite pastorsinstead of ritual leaders by position Laibon. After the prayer was over four or five people approached me. They allwere commenting about my prayers that it touched their hearts. One daredeven to say that when my turn came he felt that God's hand was on him.The other said that when others were praying it was just as if they arejoking/playing except he was touched profoundly by two pastors pointingme and the other one I did not know. The other said his body and heartwas stimulated and the other said he was penetrated by my prayers.I thankGod that He made a distinction from the rest by giving power to attend myprayers. God did the same to Elijah and prophets of Baal at mount Carmel(1Kings 17-19).I had to interview One of key speakers, a Pastor from Kenya named IsayaOirishi Ole Ndokote. He does not know how to read but can speak the Biblepassages in Maasai language miraculously from his brain. He happened tocome to Tanzania as a Lutheran. Previuosly one of my friends from KenyaDaniel Ole Sinti told me what happenned with him in the past as I quote:"He was very famous preacher who belonged to Africa-Inland Church (AIC)sunday worshipers. But one day he anounced to his church that God hasgiven him a vision of a mountain growing from small beginings and laitersurpass all other mountains and all Maasai people will later come to thismountain to worhip". I compare this vision with what was shown Isaiah(Isaiah 2:2-4, Isaiah 18:1-7), Daniel 2, and repeated by Micah (Micah4:1-3) As members pressed to understand the meaning he went on tointerpret the vision, "I think this must be The Seventh-Day AdventistChurch. They formerly appear to be a small church but is going to grow andsurpass all other churches and be home where all Maasai gather".Immediately the members of his congregation were furious at him. "Insteadof interpreting that our Africa-Inland church is going to conquer allother churches you give victory to SDA's! We will no longer believe you astrue prophet" intimated Daniel ole Sinti who is an Adventist. So thepreacher was no longer respected at home church in Kenya. Perhaps that mayexplain why he is working under Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzaniabecause there is Africa-Inland church in Tanzania also. He himselfprounounces publicly that he does not belong to any church but his churchis wherever Maasai gather. He describe his mission as to reconcile varioussections of Maasai which fought each other in history. That attributes tohis fame in Maasai land of Kenya and Tanzania. You know sometimes our enemies or competitors can give us goodnews. Sightfor an example of Rahab in Jericho, she strengthened the spies (Joshua2:8-28). Gidion spying at Midians camp was strengthen by vision given andexplained by one of the midianites (Judges 7:9-17). So this story of amountain growing strengthen me also in our plan endeavour to reach out toMaasai people. In fact SDA church is still very small compared to severalchurches that have made effort earlier to reach Maasai people. I metseveral pastors from other churches extraordinary happy to meet us. Theyhad been following us through Adventist World radio Maasai program. Nowthey chalenged us to meet them at their homes. I am happy that we have thetruth that makes us to conquer!I wished I had team of evangelists/choir, my own car, time, travel budget, raptop computer, projector and PA system that I may start to preach invarious openned areas. The 200 stations already planned in our radiodistribution project can turn into churches. But the question comes whoshould be working at studio? Let us pray God may bring us to conquerMaasai land with the 3 angels message, the truth as it is in Jesus. Let usstudy the Bible, fast and pray: so that we can plan, organise and executethe plan, for the fields are ripe, it is time to gather. I wish theexorbitant money and human resource used on the war against terror wouldbe used to make peace and reconciliation (2Corinth 5:16-20) as signifiedby the Bible as beating spears to plow. Micah 4:1-3, Isaiah 2:2-4.Thefierceness and ferrocity of Maasai warriors, spears and swords applied inhistory would turn to what Paul explains in Ephesians 6:10-20 as the armorof God the quiet war for the quiet weapons against the stealth enemy usingthe strategy to hold the world a prison place of tortureand spiritualruin. Let us watch the kingdom of God is coming! I can perceive sights ofthe bright prospect which the future holds for the people of God who maybe presently at Adventist church or out still in various folds.Yours in the Lord's work.Lemareka T. THESE ARE SOME LETTER EXCERPTS

“Dear Beloved in our Lord Jesus. I greet you in the name of the Lord. I hope you are fine in the Lord’s vineyard. The aim of this letter is to greet and encourage you as a hero in the Lord’s work. You may not know me. But I saw you in Arusha and I also hear you daily in Maasai language radio programs. These programs have strengthen me so much “ Daniel Ole Sumuni, Mwanza, Tanzania.

“I must congratulate so much leaders and few ministers in AWR Maasai service who strive to serve and speak this language in a very perfect way. These include. Pastor L. Ole Kibasisi, Pololet Ole Mambega, and Pastor Loitopuaki Ole Lebabu”
L. L. Severe Arusha, Tanzania.

“Gospel and nurturing ministry in Maasai land are going well especially through AWR Maasai service. They have witnessed to us many things happened through radio ministry and they request you (Producer) to visit them so as to finalize their decision. We as a church decided to write to you when we saw our brethren from Pentecostal churches taking advantage and getting success of many souls through our radio conducting seminars house to house by using converted Maasai people from their churches in various places. Here at Mungeta are about 5 Maasai divisions with 209 inhabitants. “
Martin Mwamhanga, Evangelist in Maasailand .

THIS ARTICLE WHICH APPEARED IN NOVEMBER 1ST, 2005
is very useful if implemented in Maasai land: Because of several reasons: first the work will mature since people will know how to read the Bible for themselves. They will be able to witness and in the way be strengthened in the work of God. You will add others yourself as you see how it worked in Brazil.

South America: Learning to Read Brings Many to Jesus
Brasilia, Brazil .... [Taashi Rowe/ANN]
-------------------------------------------------------
When you can't fill out a voting ballot, read a bed time story to your
child, apply for a better job, or even understand street signs life can
be difficult to navigate. This is what each day is like for the
approximately 860 million people worldwide who do not know how to read.
About two-thirds of all illiterate people are women, according to the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO).
In many areas of the world women are often the last to receive any form
of education, but in South America women are leading the fight against
illiteracy. Here the illiteracy rates range from 2.3 percent in Uruguay
to 13.1 percent in Brazil, according to the United Nations.
With the theme of "Alphabetize to Evangelize," the Women's Ministries
department of the Adventist Church is leading a series of reading
workshops all over South America.
Evelyn Nagel, Women's Ministries director in South America, says
literacy is just one of the major issues facing women that they are
addressing. Adventist women worldwide have identified six areas that
affect women negatively.
Many of those issues are in line with the eight issues that member
states of the United Nations are working to improve globally by 2015.
The objectives, called Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), look to
eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; achieve universal primary
education; promote gender equality and empower women; reduce child
mortality; improve maternal health; combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other
diseases; ensure environmental sustainability; and develop a global
partnership for development.
While the literacy program isn't new, Nagel says that 2005 is the year
they are emphasizing literacy.
"There are many women who are very enthusiastic about this project,
each one doing their part -- people who are interested in helping
spread the word in their churches and encourage others to participate
by donating funds or material," says Nagel.
The program involves many in the Adventist community from the church's
education department to its publishing houses in Brazil and Argentina,
as well as church members from all over South America.
"Alphabetize to Evangelize" has a dual purpose: end the crippling
cycle of poverty that is often a result of illiteracy, and share the
Gospel with students. The program uses the "Aprender é Viver" (Learning
Is Living) workbook in Spanish and Portuguese. While the program uses
traditional teaching methods, the entire content is based on Bible
texts. Each student who successfully completes the program is presented
with a Bible.
"In this manner we are helping to decrease illiteracy rates. At the
same time we want to take the Gospel to all people," Nagel says.
Odacir Pivoto is a former student who came back to the program as a
volunteer. In addition to learning to read and write, he learned about
Jesus. He began to attend a local church in Peru and was baptized
together with his wife.
The program is especially flourishing in many parts of Brazil, whose
1,290,000 church members make it the country with the most Seventh-day
Adventist church members in the world.
In 2001, six teaching centers were organized with 13 students, and one
student was baptized in South Paraná. By 2004, there were 74 teaching
centers with 274 students in South Paraná, and 50 percent of the
students have requested Bible studies. The classes have led to at least
15 baptisms. In other parts of Brazil local governments have supported
the project by providing funding for materials and a place for classes
to meet.
In Northeast Peru, the challenge of evangelizing through literacy was
embraced with great enthusiasm because the illiteracy index in the
region is very high, especially among women. From March to July
enrollment in classes went up from 80 people to 250.
"The literacy course for adults is a powerful tool to help people
develop in life, to learn to read, and above all learn to give
themselves to Jesus," said Marlene Garcia, a women's ministry leader in
Southern Brazil.

MPANGO WA KUGAWA REDIO 200 NA SUPER POWER MEGAPHONE 200 UMASAINI TANZANIA KWA AJILI YA VITUO VYA WASIKILIZAJI WA AWR IDHAA YA KIMAASAI

I. MKAKATI WA INJILI UMASAINI (STRATEGIC PLAN)

Waingereza wanasema ‘the good chance never come twice’.

I INTRODUCTION
It is another good time to present before you the year-end report of Adventist World Radio Maasai language service. Current developments have given us green light that our message is received. The LORD has blessed us with good news from far and near to encourages us in our toil during the time of service in TAMC. The presenter requests any comments, opinions and constructive cliticisms to advance the work of the lord for Maasai people.

It was a very big blow to the church to lose five champions of the gospel at the end of last year tragic accident. But the gap that the late Pr. Loitopuaki S Lebabu has left for AWR Maasai service is big. However his voice is still on air especially during Saturday programs.

II. PROGRAM PRODUCTION
I thank the Lord for Adam Siloti who has been my partner in programs search and production. We have been producing common schedule programs and special programs. The total programs this year are 364.

A: The common including the following:
1. Maasai Culture talk, Christian faith – Sunday
2. Health talk and SDA doctrine – Monday
3. Family life and Development for pastoralist – Tuesday
4. Testimony from listeners and special call Wednesday
5. Music (Christian) and Bible talk – Thursday
6. Steps to Christ and Children’s Conner – Friday
7. Worship program and Bible passage for the week - Saturday

B: Special programs
We have produced two evangelistic programs the first weeks 28 programs at the beginning of the year and 28 programs at the end of the year. This has been special moments to present God’s message without common mixture with social programs

III. LISTERNER FEEDBACK AND RESPONSES
A: Responses through Massages and phone calls.
(i) I received several messages of Maasai listeners who shared with us how they
have been blessed by AWR I had to keep them in my phone because of their importance.
(1) “I must congratulate you and thank you so much buy this encourage that we are hearing you daily. The solution is let us march to God. Your listener” - S. Dodoma.

(2) “Brother I greet you in the Name of the LORD. May God give you long life in this world and everlasting in the world to come”- M. L. Tanga
(3) “How are you my beloved? I am at Manyara I met 20 believers who were
baptized because of listening to AWR. They enjoy listerning it daily. The fist one to catch AWR and introduce toe others was G”- A. L. Manyara.
(4) “Thank you so much servant of God because of the word you shared with
us, may the LORD bless you amen” D. N. _ Kenya

(ii) Apart from text messages several of our listeners have been phoning through my cell phone. The foremost are Daniel Ole Naimodu, a listern from Kenya.
Another one is Wilson Morindet who is also a listener from Kenya. But the great news, which shocked me, is when Bishop Moses Meeli a prominent figure in Kenya shared with me through his phone how our AWR Maasai service is appreciated in Kenya. He is not an Adventist yet he could encourage us to continue the work knowing that we have a trustable audience. Many others called from now and then that shared with us their positive responses.

B. The producer’s visits
The Maasai language producer met several listeners at his local visits. This is during official and private travels. I met many Maasai listeners at Parakuyo village who are listeners of AWR. The same applies to Mbala, Pwani Tanzania a prospective sight for Maasai camp meeting. I met also many in Dar es Salaam who said that AWR is reaching their homeland at central of Tanzania. I met local elders of Longido at Enkare naibor, ARUSHA who also told us that they listern to AWR.

C Through fellow Adventist’s visits
Not only the producer, but also many Adventist have been moving either in their official or private visits. They brought with them good news which acted as a challenge to our work. For example Pastor Philemon Mswanyama visited haneti village of Dodoma and found around 200 Maasai villagers who were listerning AWR. They were asking if the church can be established in their village. All of them were asking to joining the Adventist church.

Another is Pastor Jacob Gagi when visiting Mlali District. Members at Majawanga village brough the report of many Maasai listers residing at Laiseli village of Kiteto. They also invited the speaker of Maasai service to attend their area to teach them more of Adveintist faith.

Pastor D’zombe when at Kilombero district, he met Maasai people who listen AWR daily and they told him that the programs of AWR Maasai are a blessing to them. They knew the producer by name. But they wanted see him face to face .

I have a lot more but time and space des not allow. Finally one Maasai listener met the producer at Magomeni Dar es Salaam. He commented that AWR Maasai language service have changed the attitude of Maasai populations residing at Kilindi district, Tanga. The Anglican church is very dominant at the area but now they started to respect and praise Adventism which they formerly despised. This is good news indeed!

D. Souls that joined the Church:
These are the number of people reported to join the Adventist church this year, which related to aspect of radio ministry. When I visited Mballa many people and new stations are opening. They amount to 114 souls, which joined the church through baptism. At Manyara 20 reported to be baptized as a result of radio work and at Longido 48 Maasai people were baptized during a crusade but also AWR paved the way. The total number for this year is 182.

IV CHALLENGES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
As I have noted earlier, the listeners always wants visits. But this is too much for us. We are only two and program production is pressing us hard to respond to the outer calls. The budget also is limited to attend a vast area of our listeners. There is widespread interest manifested buy our listeners to our message. AWR has been a tool to promote life in Jesus Christ. But we are not equipped to go down and start seminars and classes, crusades. People are already there out. They now need to be baptized but they don’t see us! Their consciences are awakened but who will go after them. It is time for our field’s and conferences to mobilize churches of their mission to work for Maasai people. Otherwise there is no meaning for AWR if the fruits are not gathered.

V. PROJECTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR
(1) We would like to attend many more calls of our listeners.
(2) We are planning to involve the large membership with interest in evangelizing Maasai people through radio distribution project
(3) Maasai Camp meeting. We are planning to have special Maasai Camp-meeting 2008. It is sad that it is postponed again but God will make it effective more.
(4) We want to raise a team of evangelists in each field and conference to reach to Maasai people. (Developing a work force), that will be facilitated to meet the Maasai people at their areas
(5) Organize literacy and nursery schools at several locations, by using cheap material at the beginning, and volunteers teachers

VI APPRECIATIONS
Many thanks to sponsors of AWR who donated 250 radios for AWR Maasai listeners. We delayed in distributing them because we want to make them so much effective. We have already arranged 200 stations to amplify the voice of AWR in their homesteads.

Also we thank Tanzania Union Mission for giving special treatment to Maasai people. This includes TAMC Board. Last but not least the AWR Africa region office has done much to facilitate our process of sending programs to South Africa through the internet! We praise God because we never missed our programs because of this advanced technology.
